Ten Foods That Are Considered Unlucky and Will Only Bring Bad Luck

Some foods are considered lucky and some are considered unlucky and today we are taking a look at the latter unlucky foods. While some people will argue any food should be considered lucky there are some people who also think some foods bring nothing but bad luck and here are just ten of those foods and a few reasons why they are considered bad luck…

Chicken Wings

In fact, it is anything with wings that is considered to make your lucky fly away from you once you have consumed them.

Lobster

While it isn’t the only sea creature that can swim backwards it is the one that people consume the most of and that backwards swimming is a sure sign of your luck getting away from you.

Boiled Eggs

While eating the eggs themselves is not considered bad luck not breaking the bottom of the shell after you have eaten it so the witch can escape is bad luck. I got told this one by my own mother.

Christmas Cake

It is said each member of the household should take at least one stir of the Christmas cake mix in order to avoid bad luck entering the house. This is another one that my own mother told me and made all of us take a turn stirring it even though I hated the smell of it.

Basil

You can enjoy basil in your food all you like, but sniffing it is considered to bring a bad luck scorpion to you. That is what many village people in Mexico believe anyway.

Cup of Tea

This is the only drink on this list and it is an old wives tale that says if you add milk to your tea before sugar you will bring a long stretch of bad luck into your life.

Sliced Bread

It’s not all sliced bread that brings you bad luck, just the odd slice with a hole in it which is said to symbolise an imminent death of someone you know! (my own mother believed this one as well).

Turkey

While the lobster swims backwards a turkey is often seen scratching the ground backwards and that is considered bad luck for the year ahead as it is going backwards.

Salt

This is one of the most common food-related bad luck superstitions and it is considered very unlucky for spilling salt. The only way to break this curse is to throw some salt with your right hand over your left shoulder as quickly as you spilt it.

Birthday Cake

And we end with a superstition that most people know half of, but not all of it. The full superstition goes if you blow all the candles out on your birthday cake your wish will come true. But what you might not know is if you fail to do so a year of bad luck will face you!
