We spend a huge chunk of our money every year on beauty cosmetics and what beauty companies will not tell you is that we spend billions every year on cosmetics only. In 2021, £45(per person) was spent on beauty products. It goes without saying that cosmetics are vital but what if you could have a cheaper, effective homemade alternative? Well, there are many things in your kitchen that can replace cosmetics as you will see below.
1. Avocado for Face Mask
Avocado is a great anti-ageing antioxidant thanks to its Vitamin E. It also has Vitamin C which stimulates collagen production and makes for a great face mask. Mash half a cup and apply it on your face before washing it off after 10 minutes. If your skin reacts to avocado try mayonnaise. It works perfectly.
2. Kosher Salt for Body Scrub
Save on body scrubs by using some kosher salt instead. Mix this with some olive oil and enjoy a superb body scrub. You can also substitute kosher salt with sugar.
3. Beets for Lip Stick
Beets are naturally bright coloured and a beet can give your lips a great red-violet lipstick alternative that will last for hours. Simply rub a freshly cut beet onto your lips and add some shine with your preferred lip gloss and save big.
4. Lemon Juice for Bleach
You can lighten your skin and locks using lemon juice. Apply some lemon juice on your age spots and watch them fade over time. To give your hair a lighter shade, simply combine your lemon juice with some leave-in conditioner.
5. Baking Soda for Whiter Teeth
Baking soda is a natural abrasive that can be used as toothpaste on its own or combined with hydrogen peroxide to give your teeth a brightening effect.
6. Baking Soda for Exfoliant
Besides oral health, baking soda is also a great exfoliant and can help unclog your pores and rid your skin of blackheads. The good thing is that you also get a balanced pH hence making your skin brighter.
7. Coconut Milk for Hair Conditioner
Coconut milk is a great treatment for dry hair and could also be used as a conditioner. However, be ready to smell like coconut all day.
8. Olive Oil for Shaving Cream
Out of shaving cream? No need to fret. Simply substitute your shaving cream with olive oil and we can guarantee you that you will not have any nicks. This works well, especially on the face and legs.
9. Licorice for Corns
Tired of spending lots of money on corn caps, you might want to consider using liquorice. Liquorice is rich in estrogen and rubbing it with some sesame oil on your corns and calluses can help reduce their size and soften them as well.
10. Vinegar for Anti Dandruff
Dandruff can be eliminated by changing your scalp’s pH level to deter yeast overgrowth. Vinegar, especially apple cider can work as a more effective alternative to your anti-dandruff product. Simply mix it fifty-fifty with water and massage it into your head after shampooing and let it sit for half an hour before rinsing it out.
